Dry risers, typically installed in buildings over 10m tall, are a series of pipes that allow the delivery of large amounts of water to various upper floors of a building in case the need to combat fire arises. They are installed into suitable positions, such as in a staircase, and feature an inlet at ground level which the fire brigade can then connect to main water supplies and outlets on each of the upper floors.
